Quote of the day

“Maybe the new governor doesn’t understand yet – but the National Guard is not his own personal intimidation force to be mobilized to quash political dissent,” said Robin Eckstein, a former Wisconsin National Guard member, Iraq War Veteran from Appleton, WI, and member of VoteVets.org. “The Guard is to be used in case of true emergencies and disasters, to help the people of Wisconsin, not to bully political opponents. Considering many veterans and Guard members are union members, it’s even more inappropriate to use the Guard in this way. This is a very dangerous line the Governor is about to cross.” --Zach at Blogging Blue, Feb. 14, 2011

When I was a junior in high school, a classmate of mine was a member of the meatcutters' union, which was on strike at our local supermarket; and he was charmed by quaint old labor songs like the one that went,
He'll call out the po-lice, the National Guard
Tell you it's a crime to have a union card
Then they're raid your meetin', hit you on the head,
Call every one of you a doggone Red!

We thought that sort of thing had ended with the Thirties.

This is the year they really go to war on unions, social security, medicare and medicaid.

The depths of what these people do not know is unfathomable.

An encouraging remark from a firefighter.
