The 2011 Locus Awards finalists

I'm amused at myself. Looking over the ballot for the 2011 Locus Awards, I first thought, There's much to be pleased about on this ballot; it includes quite a few excellent pieces of writing and not all of it by white males. No one will be surprised to hear I was particularly pleased to see Rachel Swirsky's "The Lady Who Plucked..." and Karen Joy Fowler "Booth's Ghost." But then I saw, to my surprise, that Aqueduct again has a book on the ballot, and my interest became, shall we say, personal. (Or should the correct word be professional?) Congratulations, then, to everyone who contributed to 80)! Memories & Reflections on Ursula K. Le Guin--- and of course to its editors, Karen Joy Fowler and Debbie Notkin! I note that we share the category with, among others, Mark Rich's magnum opus on Korbluth and a book of Octavia E. Butler interviews.

The Locus Science Fiction Foundation has announced the top five finalists in each category of the 2011 Locus Awards.
Winners will be announced during the Science Fiction Awards Weekend in Seattle WA, June 24-26, 2011. The Science Fiction Hall of Fame Induction will also take place that weekend, inducting Harlan Ellison, Gardner Dozois, Moebius, and Vincent Di Fate. Tickets are still available here.
