Joanna Russ (1937-2011)

I'm feeling too emotional to write more at this time, but I felt the need to acknowledge Joanna's death here at once. Her importance to me personally and as a writer, and for feminist sf as a whole, cannot be overstated. I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. Condolences to us all.

More about Joanna and her work later, I promise.

I'm also very sad. It's comforting to see everyone's tributes and how much they also are affected.

So sad. I first read her work when I was a young teenager, along with that of Tanith Lee, Octavia Butler, Elizabeth A Lynn, Joan Vinge, and Jessica Amanda Salmonson, all of whom made a great impression upon me and my writing.
